General Information

  • Location: Please take a moment to check our contact information! Our office is located at Unit 212-1964 Fort Street in the Foul Bay Professional Building. Due to road construction along Fort Street, please plan ahead and leave enough time for potential traffic delays. Patient parking is available in the building’s parking lot.

  • Prior to your first appointment, please take a few minutes to download and fill out our patient intake form. Alternately, please plan to arrive 5-10 minutes early to fill out our patient intake form at the office.

  • Please bring your medical card and a list of all your medications

  • As this is an Allergy practice we ask that you please do not consume food/snacks in the office

  • We are a scent-free office

 

First Appointment

PREPARING FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT

  • No long-lasting antihistamines (eg. Allegra, Aerius, Blexten, Claritin, Reactine, Rupall, Atarax) for 5 days prior to the appointment. Benadryl or Chlortripolon can be used until the night before your appointment.

  • Nasal sprays, asthma medications, prednisone, creams/ointments, eye drops and regular allergy injections are fine to continue.

  • If your appointment is about a rash, hives or swelling: please bring photographs.

  • If your appointment is about a possible food allergy: please bring any photos and notes about the reaction.

  • We can test most common food allergens (eg. dairy, wheat, egg, nuts, seafood) and aeroallergens (eg. dust mites, grass and tree pollens, mold) with extracts we have at the office. Please feel free to bring any other food items you suspect may be causing you an allergic reaction to your appointment for example: fresh fruits or vegetables, spices, etc.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • The first visit will usually take up to 1 hour.

  • You can expect to:

  • Check in with the front desk staff and fill out intake forms.

  • Speak with the doctor to discuss your specific concerns and have a physical exam.

  • Receive testing (such as allergy skin prick testing) if indicated.

 

Follow-up Appointment

  • At a follow-up appointment, you will speak with the doctor about your specific follow-up concerns

  • Follow-up appointments will usually take 15 minutes

  • If skin prick testing is required:

    • No long-lasting antihistamines (eg. Allegra, Aerius, Blexten, Claritin, Reactine, Rupall, Atarax) for 5 days prior to the appointment. Benadryl or Chlortripolon can be used until the night before your appointment.

  • Nasal sprays, asthma medications, prednisone, creams/ointments, eye drops and regular allergy injections are fine to continue.

 

Penicillin Testing

PREPARING FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT

  • No long-lasting antihistamines (eg. Allegra, Aerius, Blexten, Claritin, Reactine, Rupall, Atarax) for 5 days prior to the appointment. Benadryl or Chlortripolon can be used until the night before your appointment.

  • Nasal sprays, asthma medications, prednisone, creams/ointments, eye drops and regular allergy injections are fine to continue.

  • Please bring notes or photographs of your previous reaction (if available).

WHAT TO bring

  • Due to COVID-19 precautions, please plan to arrive at your designated appointment time (rather than early) to reduce exposure to others.

  • Please Note: There is a $30 fee for the penicillin test supply that will be used for testing. This is due at the time of the appointment and may be paid by cash, cheque, or card.

  • If your child is undergoing penicillin testing we suggest bringing a few books, toys or other items to entertain them while waiting in the office.

what to expect

  • Penicillin testing will usually take 2.5-3 hours.

  • Once the testing has started, you are asked to remain in the office until discharged.

  • Patients will:

    • Check in with the front desk staff and fill out intake forms.

    • Speak with the doctor to discuss their specific concerns and have a physical exam.

    • Fill out a consent form.

    • Receive testing which may include intradermal skin testing if indicated and/or a challenge with an oral dose of amoxicillin if indicated.

    • Wait in the office for monitoring until discharged.

 

Medication Challenge

PREPARING FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT

  • No long-lasting antihistamines (eg. Allegra, Aerius, Blexten, Claritin, Reactine, Rupall, Atarax) for 5 days prior to the appointment. Benadryl or Chlortripolon can be used until the night before your appointment.

  • Nasal sprays, asthma medications, prednisone, creams/ointments, eye drops and regular allergy injections are fine to continue.

  • Please bring notes or photographs of your previous reaction (if available).

WHAT TO BRING

  • Your medical card and a list of all your medications.

  • If your child is undergoing a medication challenge we suggest bringing a few books, toys or other items to entertain them while waiting in the office.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Medication challenges will usually take 3 hours.

  • Once the testing has started, you are asked to remain in the office for monitoring until discharged.

 

Food Challenge

PREPARING FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT

  • No long-lasting antihistamines (eg. Allegra, Aerius, Blexten, Claritin, Reactine, Rupall, Atarax) for 5 days prior to the appointment. Benadryl or Chlortripolon can be used until the night before your appointment.

  • Nasal sprays, asthma medications, prednisone, creams/ointments, eye drops and regular allergy injections are fine to continue.

WHAT TO BRING

  • Your specific food being challenged in a container along with any utensils you might need.

  • Your medical card and a list of all your medications.

  • Your epinephrine auto-injector.

  • If your child is undergoing a food challenge we suggest bringing a few books, toys or other items to entertain them while waiting in the office.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Food challenges will usually take 3 hours.

  • Once the testing has started, you are asked to remain in the office until discharged.

 

Patch Testing

Preparing for your appointment

  • You do not need to stop antihistamines for this type of testing.

  • Please contact our office in advance if you have active rash your back, or if you are taking prednisone or immune suppressing medications.

  • Please wear loose, comfortable clothing to the appointment

what to bring

  • Your medical card and a list of all your medications.

  • Any skin care/cosmetic products you suspect you may be reacting to.

what to expect

  • The patches are usually applied to the back and will stay on for 48 hours.

  • The skin under the patches MUST stay dry for the entire 48 hours.

  • The patch test area should be covered while showering/bathing to prevent getting it wet.

    • Avoid sweating/exercise

    • Wear loose comfortable clothing to avoid too much pressure/rubbing on patches

  • If the patch test causes too much itchiness or pain: the patch can be removed early, make a note of which patch was causing the issue, and take a photograph of the skin.
